Just back from field camp. For those who want to know how a field camp is like...
Before starting, pack everything, and most importantly, pray that it dun rain...
Day 1: Route march to camp site at rubber planation, 4 kliometers. Then build basha, and dig a drainage system for rain water to flow... Hope you dun run into tree roots or lots of stones, or the night will be terrible... Later the afternoon is lectures and practices on rnge card and sentry duties...
Day 2: Almost same things, lectures and practices on field signals, walking tactically, and crossing danger areas... Followed by a little night practice on walking in the night, and learn the arty (for artillery) drills... Happy time conducting the arty drills...
Day 3: Test on what was taught on the second day, then rest and rest... Serious... My section talked crap for 3 hours with the sergent...
Day 4: Moved to Eastern Pier for demostration on section movements (charging, leap and bound, flanking), technical break for the afternoon, got the first wet bath in four days... Dinner was memoriable, for we went to the sea side to eat our fresh dinner (ie, not combat rations), plus a can of soft drink and M&M's... WA!!!
Day 5: Stayed at eastern pier for section movements practice and test... Good luck...
Day 6: Troop lifted to reclaimed land for trench digging. One shell scrape (ie, a hole in the ground for you to take cover from arty and sleep in)... and one firing trench for 2 sections... Happy digging!!! Also remember to put on mosquito repelent for the night, or you will be feeding them...
Day 7: :Last day!!! Cover up the hole you dug (and curse at the same time), then troop march to BIC ground. There, you will have to craw in SBO for about 100m, over sand and wire obstacles with 3 GPMGs (General Purpose Machine Guns) firing live rounds over your head... Then troop march back to company line, water parade, eat ice cream and clean rifle. Then wash up, clean area, and book out.
For me, there was an additional surprise: at 2315, officially still Day 7, I saw my application status for University of Michigan online. I was admitted.
Happy Chinese New Year!!! May the coming year be a year when your wishes come true!!!

The Picto-Personality Test

You are a person who is very ambitious, and constantly thinking of ways to further your own goals.
When alone, you are introspective. You constantly reflect on your life and the world.
You are romantic, and when you are with your partner you like to woo them with your imagination.
In the future you will be happy and live richly.

Well, what you think about the results? At least i thought it was quite accurate...
Sign... Next week field camp... Unable to book out till just before chinese new year...

Having a long weekend at home from army... Wanted to post something, but dun know what to post... A lot of pple have been asking me hows army life, my answer is that its something you have to experience yourself... The army experience is a mixed one, there are fun things, like going for live range; there are painful ones, like circuit training (for details of circuit training, ask any NS men)... There are lots of interesting pple in army, and i pity those in all JC sections, for they do not get to know those of the lower class, like the poly pple, the ITE pple, the school drop-outs... They are an interesting bunch, those pple... They do things you never think of... Seriously interesting... This is something that is very hard to learn from other places in the society, for the upper and lower class dun mixed well, and not often too...

New year... What have I been doing for the past year? Mugging in library? Walking around in RJ? Trying to find a suitable girlfriend? Going for NS? Dun really know... Sign... 2005 flew past, now its 2006... Soon 2006 will fly past also... Then 2007, 2008... I really dun know whether I have been doing for the past year... Seems like I wasted the year... But again, I have meaningful times, like having brothers and sisters, making good friends like Jeremy Koh when JC life is coming to an end... Spending the days together with my friends and classmates in RJ... A year in the new Bishan campus... There were painful times, there were happy times, there were sad times, there were times when we really felt down, there were times when we really felt high-spirited, there were valuable lessons learnt, there were priceless experiences gained... Maybe 2005 did not leave any exceptionally memorible moments for me, but the bits and pieces of 2005 will be a part of my memory... For a year, maybe 2005 was an insignificant part of human history, but for me, 2005 will be an important part of his life...
Happy new year, everybody! May 2006 be the year when your dreams come true...
